Happy Friday Friends!
I’m so excited to bring you my first FREE PATTERN FRIDAY!
If you’ve been following me on Instagram at all (psst, please do that, I crave validation) then you’ll know that sometimes I make really weird things for absolutely no reason other then that’s what came off my hook….
It’s a real issue and I see no end to it.
But that benefits y’all. Strange patterns equal free patterns because let’s be honest, no one needs to pay money for some of the things I come up with. (although psst, you still can, I take charity)
Before we go any further, please be a Pal and pin my photo. I’m not above begging, please and thank you.
Back to the Cactus Rattle
After making the Superhero Cacti (pattern coming soon) I was browsing through Instagram because I like my waste me free time drooling over pretty pictures of other peoples work. In case you were wondering #crochetcactus is huge and we as a species are weird. When I got an idea…..
After searching the thousand free cacti patterns on Pinterest, I noticed they were mostly geared towards putting in a pot on your desk or somewhere for decoration. I’ve been trying to come up with a good idea for a baby gift for a friend and what baby has a desk to put a cactus on? No baby I know….
So I bit the trendy basic bullet and set out to make a normal cactus. As normal as a rattling cactus can be of course.
I used Peaches and Cream cotton yarn from Wal-mart (you can find it on Amazon as well). This is not sponsored in any way, I just happened to be at Wal-mart weeks ago for something and saw it for only $1. They were such cute pastel colors and I bought them not knowing what to use them for. I usually only buy yarn if I have a specific project in mind, but for $1 how can you really say no?…….
For this cactus I used the colors Beach Glass, Rosa Pastel, & Black. Since this was a baby gift, I embroidered the eyes on instead of using safety eyes.
The rattle inserts I used are from Amazon. I was basically shooting blind on this one as I’d never used a rattle insert before. I read what feels like a thousand reviews on a billion different listings and picked this one after losing my eyesight. Thankfully I chose right, because these rattles are loud even when placed in the stuffing.
I did end up putting 2 rattles inside to amplify the sound, but I have also been told that my hearing is crap so see what you like and go with that.
Also ignore the title of this listing, part of the reason I was so confused was the title of the listing…..
Toy Rattle Box Repair Fix Toy Noise Maker Insert Pet Baby Toy Squeaker
Like what? How contradictory. Does it fix noise makers? Does it rattle? Squeak? Always read customer reviews, my friends! And even then it can be hard to tell. But now you know, that product actually is a rattle insert and is loud enough to hear inside a toy. That is if you choose to trust me.
Alright, let’s get to the pattern, shall we!
Don’t forget you can purchase an ad-free pdf download version of this pattern in my Ravelry store. It’s also more detailed if you can’t read my notes here. As always when sharing, tag your work with #HYAcrochet so I can see it!
